End-of-service gratuity
A payment owed when the arrangement ends, calculated from length of service and final wage.
Gratuity is not a bonus and not discretionary — it is an entitlement that accrues while somebody works for you, and it falls due when the contract ends. The calculation depends on how long she has worked and on the terms of the contract.
Because the amount grows quietly over years, households are frequently surprised by it at exactly the moment they can least absorb it.
Why it matters
Work out roughly what has accrued once a year and set it aside. Confirm the exact figure through the Tadbeer centre or MOHRE when the contract ends rather than estimating it yourself.
