After-school help and homework
Collection, the gap between the school run and dinner, and sitting with the homework rather than doing it.
School-age children need less care and more structure. The value is in the two hours between pick-up and dinner — whether they are spent well or spent on a tablet is most of what the arrangement is worth.
This is not tutoring in the exam sense. A helper who can keep a nine-year-old at the table and explain a maths question in plain language is doing something different from a subject tutor, and usually more useful day to day.
What the work involves
- School collection, and knowing which day is swimming
- Sitting with homework — supervising it, not completing it
- Reading aloud, and being read to
- Getting the uniform, bag and kit ready for the morning
- Managing the after-school activity run
